"MRI Department - Excellent Care"

I cannot praise the Senior Radiographer enough who carried out my MRI head scan at 7.15am this morning, which I had been dreading as I am claustrophobic. Although I've had two scans in the past, the fear was just as strong. However from the very start of my appointment I was made to feel comfortable and she really took the time to explain everything to me and although the aim is obviously to get through the scan without interruption,, I was reassured that, should I need to come out at any point, I could simply press the button (which you are given to hold) and they would stop the scan. I decided to keep my eyes shut the whole time although I did have a mirror attached to the head guard which reflected a scene on the wall of beautiful bluebells in a forest which really helps should you open your eyes. I also had the radio playing through the headphones at a low volume which was another distraction. The machine is very loud when the images are being taken and you have to stay very still but you are told how long each scan will take at the start and at the end of each one I was spoken to by the Radiographer with some reassuring words and also how many scans were left. I also kept my arms very close to my sides so they didn't get bumped as I was going into the machine as I didn't want any indication of the space around me. I know that everyone is different and for some people they won't experience any anxiety, but if you do, you are excellent hands and can get through it. The whole department was spotless too.
