About: Corby Urgent Care Centre

After visiting the practise today I was asked to take a seat in the central waiting area where I would be called. A sign at reception informed me that there was a 1hr 45min waiting time which was perfectly acceptable. Patients were being called in, and after 2 hrs 40 mins reception called me and I went straight through. The doctor apologised for the wait end said my name was on a bored for a long time. Given where I was told to sit by the staff, there were no boards visible, other patients were being called by name and reception did not indicate upon arrival that this was the process. The doctor advised that I had been called which was most certainly not the case when I was sat on the main thoroughfare just outside her door. The doctor also advised that she called my mobile phone and upon checking I had no missed phone call even when my correct number was checked upon arrival.

Upon leaving reception, I politely asked the 3 staff members on reception if they could inform patients that they had to walk to check a bored for their name to come up rather than assume they would be called. One staff member directly in front of me barely looked up from her personal mobile phone and the other two members of staff could not understand the problem of needlessly waiting indoors for nearly 3 hours. Being 20 weeks pregnant and therefore unvaccinated I was keen to get through an efficient system.

Whilst a poor patient management system is one thing, the ambivalence shown by Corby care centre practise staff is what was most disappointing.
