"My 23 month old put his hand between treadmill."

About: East Of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

So I bought a treadmill whilst in lockdown to focus on fitness. My cousin asked for a shot of it one day I said yeah no bother. So I was on the phone to my bf downstair whilst she was on treadmill. I then heard screams but it didnt sound like a scream where he was injured it sounded like a scream where someone had taken something off him. If ur a parent ull know what I mean u get different types of screams lol.

So I ran up and found all the palm and 3 fingers his skin was completely off very red no bleeding I panicked I had no clue what to do I was trying to phone 111 for advice at first but taken too long because it asks so many things and u need to click numbers so I was going off my head cause my child was distressed I was distressed so I phoned an ambulance (bearing in mind I thought ahhh what if wasting their time) im sorry but my childs in terrible pain im glad I did because it was the right thing to do.

Ambulance arrived quickly guys were really lovelly! ! ! My son fell asleep on me in the ambo at this point I was relieved because hes asleep hes not in pain atm I felt so helpless when he was crying & I couldn't take the pain away for him. Got to hospital waited whilst people checked him out he got bandaged up. Day after we went back to get it redressed its been a week since it happened hes had a full thickness skin graft. It went well hes been brand new ud never even think he just had an operation. The staff are amazing. So nice and reassure u all the time! !

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about the East of England Ambulance Service. I'm sorry to hear what happened to your son and glad to see he is now recovering well.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the staff involved and would be grateful if you could email feedback@eastamb.nhs.uk the date and location the crew attended to so that we can trace the staff involved.

In your email could you please quote JW2204 and I will be able to link the information to your feedback.

Thank you again for your kind words of appreciation.

Thank you for telling us about what must have been a very difficult time for you and your family. I am pleased that your son is on the mend and that you all received such good care and support from teams at the hospital and also from the ambulance service. I will share your comments with the teams (at the hospital and ambulance service) who cared for you son so that they are all aware of how grateful you are for the care and reassurance you have received.

Kind regards
