"No Progress"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dermatology (Skin Conditions)

(as a service user),

No Progress, Outdated Systems and zero communication

I have been attempting to get assistance from the dermatologist for nigh on two years now. After finally being referred from the GP the appointment wait time was three months after which I was provided with a new prescription (which didn't work but that is not the complaint) and told I would be contacted for a follow up appointment which never happened.

Eventually I had to contact the GP again for them to then arrange another initial consultation. This was conducted over webcam due to the now occurring Covid pandemic. I was told that patch testing would then be carried out and I would be contacted with a date nearer the time. I was then sent some generic leaflets with no new information which was all available online and that was never requested in paper format. This was accompanied by a letter saying that patch testing would hopefully occur in the future but I have not been contacted since.

My hands are still in a state of pain from the condition and it would be easier to draw blood from a stone than to even get a simple diagnostic test performed in a timely manner. An utter disgrace. The communication method is outdated and the information and timeline provided are next to non existent.

Hi

I am so sorry hear that your experience of the dermatology department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has caused you so much distress and concern.

I can see from your review that you have been waiting for a considerable length of time to gain access to the patch testing diagnostic service so that the correct treatment can be identified for you. The last two years must have been a really challenging for you while waiting to be seem. This service, unfortunately, had to be suspended during covid but is due to start again within the next few months.

If you contact me at my email address - eleanor.binnie-mcleod@nhs.scot - and provide me with a contact number I would be more than happy to phone you to discuss how we can get you an appointment when the service comes back on line.

My utmost apologies again,

Eleanor (Nurse Manager)
