"Attending the Women's Health clinic"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Today I went to the gynaecology out patient clinic after the results from my regular smear test came back as HPV Positive- Severe . My appointment was at 10.40

on my arrive I was greeted by staff in a very friendly way ,we filled in a quick form and then I was taken to speak to the consultant he explained why I was there and what would happen with the procedure to remove the abnormal cells during the Colposcopy. From there I was taken into the room where my procedure was to be performed . I was meet by two lovely/ friendly nurses who again talked me  though what was going to happen this made me feel very much at ease . The consultant came in and performed the procedure he told me what was going to happen ever step of the way , this did not hurt at all.  It was quick and I was walking out of the hospital at 10.25 . I was told that a sample would be sent to be analysed and I would receive my results in about 10 days.
I understand that some woman can be a little reluctant to have a smear, but I would say 100%  go it could save your life and it only takes a few minutes for smear and if like myself you received a positive result less than an hour to sort .  Obviously I need to get the diagnosis from my samples so fingers crossed .

Dear Gene Genie

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback for us following your recent visit to the gynaecology outpatient department at Pilgrim Hospital. A colposcopy appointment can be a very anxious and emotional time for many women and we endeavour to treat everyone who attends our clinic with kindness, respect and compassion. It was lovely to hear the team were able to make you feel more at ease by explaining everything and talking to you during the procedure. Thank you again for your kind words and for sharing your story. May I wish you well.

Take care

Tracy
