When my dad was taken into Craigavon Hospital with serious heart problems, it was a significant additional stress on him and the rest of the family that we would not be able to visit him. We heard the notice for the Virtual Visiting service when we phoned the hospital. Although not sure what it would entail, or whether our elderly father would be able to cope, the staff manning the service could not have been more helpful. We have found it an invaluable facility for us to maintain contact with our dad. A video service offers so much more than a basic phonecall. It offers reassurance, seeing facial expression, and in my opinion is of great benefit to the patient in aiding their recovery or simply giving them peace and comfort during their hospital stay. It would be my hope that this service would continue after its current pilot phase to become a standard service for patients and their relatives. Thank you.
