"A discrepancy between physical and mental health"

About: East Of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a service user),

In October 2020 I was attended by three paramedics I was astonished when I gave the required details of my usual meds and was asked if I got them on the black market. Shocked, I reported this and complained. The investigation resulted in every one of the 3 paramedics saying they forgot! It was said in writing that they knew my peace of mind was harmed and also wrote to say compensation is normally payable where there is harm. However, in my case, they refused to offer any compensation.

I am sorry that you had cause to raise concerns about East of England Ambulance Service following an attendance in October 2020 and you were not happy with the outcome of your complaint.

If you would like us to look into the previous investigation further, I would be grateful if could email feedback@eastamb.nhs.uk with your name and the date and the location we attended so that we can trace the investigation and get this reviewed again.

I have sent an email to the address given. I can supply forwarded messages which show the course of events and treatment I received during the complaints process so far. It would be much better if an honourable outcome could be achieved with the elements of contempt and personal harm there were.

This was the statement in reply to my post: "If you would like us to look into the previous investigation further, ... ... we can trace the investigation and get this reviewed again."

I took this opportunity and sent the email as recommended, and received a curt note to the effect that the investigation was in fact complete. (The apparent offer to re-examine events was, it seemed, just for this site.)

So, we came to the statement I made above, where no less than three paramedics were allowed to say, they forgot!

It's not credible. I think the responses I had from the team at the ambulance service were intended to make me feel silly, as if I got things wrong, and I felt there were elements of ageism and sexism in the scenario overall as well as prejudice against someone who seemed a bit different from the paramedics themselves.

With counselling and psychology training, I could tell that the team were being protected, with a poor outcome for me as opposed to the fullest possible respect for my report and true experience, and a simple outcome that would have matched the declarations (written) from the acting CEO.
