I have been having issues with my ears for some months now, and a MRI (done privately through a neurologist) picked up a build up in my maxillary sinus. When I informed ENT of this, they did a CT scan that confirmed it.
At the consultation, the surgeon (I can't quite remember his name! It was Vard-something, I think! Sorry!) was very nice and patient with me, explaining that I was there due to this sinus build up (I thought I was there about my ears - not his fault!) And told me exactly what he was going to do and offered me every opportunity to ask questions - he even looked in my ears for me! After sticking a camera up my nose which didn't hurt at all, he took me back into the room and explained that he would perform a procedure on that sinus to wash all the gunk away and explained all the potential side effects while telling me they had never happened to any of his patients and made sure I was happy to have the procedure. That will be in the next 4-6 weeks.
Overall while it hadn't been explained to me ahead of time what the appointment would be about, I was quite happy with the appointment and felt the surgeon I saw was very pleasant and went out of his way to ensure I was comfortable with it all.
