My complaint is about not being able to call my health provider and book a standard appointment whenever they are open. A number of practices only allow booking during the morning, this might benefit emergency style appointments but many have chronic diseases where a same day appointment is not required and merging people with long term needs with those with immediate needs seems a rather strange approach. Anyone can understand the need to reserve slots in the morning for emergency cases. But moving the entire booking system to the morning creates a whirlwind bottle neck of calls, making it hard to get through, coupled with extremely lengthy repetitive covid-messages each time you call, frustrated patients and frustrated staff. Furthermore, those with chronic conditions or cancerous symptoms do not usually call the first time after a relapse but after an Nth relapse, so the most optimal way for them to be booked in is at the moment when they call. But this system further delays their treatment as they may continue to doubt their symptoms and not call the following morning. I do not think it is too much to ask to be able to call your health provider and ask for an appointment. This way of handling appointments is putting targets above quality of service and puts the reception staff at the edge of all this, which is also unfair to them.
