"Change is very challenging"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Health Visiting

(as a service user),

I have recently been told by my health visitor that she will be moved to a different area from the end of April and I will have a new health visitor.

I currently stay within rigside where I have recently moved to. since having my baby I have had issues with my mental health.

I feel my health visitor has been a massive part in my journey to regain positive mental health again and this journey has only just begun.

Faced with the fact she will no longer be working in rigside has caused me and can only imagine every other family she works with a great deal of uncertainty.

Being in my current situation the thought of change is very challenging. Building a trusting relationship with anyone is a very hard thing to do and requires a lot of time and effort and for all of this to be taking away just like that is causing me a great deal of stress.

I feel health visitors are a key part in family's with young children and should not be swapped about without really good cause as so many families depend on this service and don't cope with change very well.

I for one am very disappointed to be losing my health visitor and feel this will have a massive impact on my current situation.

Thank you for sharing your story and appreciation of your Health Visitor’s support which has helped you regain good mental health.

We understand how important it is to families, to have continuity with their Health Visitor and we only make changes when it is absolutely necessary.

As you say, building a relationship is hard to do and I am sure your current Health Visitor will work with you and your new Health Visitor to ensure that this transition goes as smoothly as possible, enabling building of a new partnership, which continues to be supportive to you and your family.
