"The amazing staff members on ward 207"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I had gone through emergency surgery and was moving on from the lovely staff on ward 208 to ward 207.

Never once have I been passed by a member of staff without them asking if I was ok, if I needed anything, if they could help with anything and not once has it felt false, forced or they are asking for asking sake. If you feel in the need for a chat they stop what they were doing and chat about anything and nothing. Or if you need them to explain what is happening next, they take the time to explain in a way you understand.

Whilst having to spend this time in hospital, I have quickly realised they aren't people just doing their job, they aren't just members of staff, they become your carer, your supporter, your visitor and for some, your everything. These amazing people aren't just there for covid they are there full stop.

I have to say, if I were to hear people saying any different I would have to challenge it.

Stay amazing and thank you very much ward 207 for everything!

Dear Yazz

I am very proud to be the Chief Nurse for the Surgical Division at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. I just wanted to let you know that your story brought a lump to my throat and reminded me of why I chose nursing as a career. Even though my management position means that I don't directly are for patients I feel privileged to be a part of the team.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I know it gives comfort to other who might be facing hospital admission to know that they will be in such good hands.

Thank you also to all the staff in 207.

I hope you are recovering well and looking forward to some hard won freedoms in the not too distant future.

Update posted by Yazz (the patient)

Dear Linda

Thank you very much for taking the time to contacting me as I am certain you are a very busy person.

I can’t praise 207 enough. My story would have been bigger but there just wasn’t the right words to use and I couldn’t see for crying. I felt & feel they need to be recognised and didn’t know how else to do it. But with your thanks I’m sure it will give them all an extra boost.

My recovery was made so much easier & quicker due to them all. My husband & daughter are also very thankful to and for them.

I need to add the doctors also take their time with you, example -

Patient in the same room as I was hard of hearing and a bit forgetful. The doc took the time to sit there and write everything down for them so they didn’t miss anything and understood what was happening. The patient was then able to contact their family and read to them what the doc had said. The doc did the same a couple of times that I saw.

Hopefully this also helps those facing admission.
