"Food choice and quality"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Male Medical

(as a relative),

Recently my father in law was in DHH Male Medical for a short period. He praised the nursing team and the care he received. However he has made comment  regarding food quality. He has reported that most of his meals were very dry and often food was hard and he was unable to eat the food. He has had previous admissions to DHH and noted that this was the first time he noticed such a deterioration in food quality. Others on the ward also commented on the food.

Given that nutrition is so vital in the well being and physical health of any older adult it may be timely to review storing /heating of food timescales as well as menus

Hello Dawn1969

I am very sorry for the delay in replying to your feedback.

I wish to apologise that your father-in-law had a poor experience with the quality of meals provided.

I want to assure you we have had an engineer check the meal trolleys thermostatic controls as this may have impacted the trolley temperature and food quality.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me on 02837560017.

Kind regards

Andrew
