I went to the CHD Clinic in Rushcliffe, and I have to say, my experience was not particularly good.
There was nothing wrong with the 5 minutes conversation where they showed me where to stick the 2 parts of the blood pressure device onto my chest - the problem is that I'm over 80, I have no family, I have nobody who can help drive me. I asked if I could collect the device from my local medical centre where I have to have some blood tests done anyway, and was told it was out of the question.
It cost me £40 for the taxi there and back. And now I've got to return there a week later to drop it off again, so thats £80 that I can't afford. All my friends are elderly too, I don't have anyone else I can turn to - we have a care group that would normally help with transport like this, but the people who run it are also vulnerable, so the service isn't running due to covid.
It just seems that there is very little consideration for the personal circumstances of the patients, like there is no flexibility at all. If it were something that required expertise, I would feel differently, but it was such a simple process, I'm sure my normal nurse would have happily done it - I really think there is some scope for improvement here. Just sending everybody to one centralised point irrespective of circumstance just seems like something that could be done better.
I just wanted to highlight this issue as something that I hope can be improved
