"12 year old son’s broken ankle"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Accident & Emergency (Emergency Care)

(as a parent/guardian),

My 12 year old son injured his ankle while playing with friends at school. Very helpful call with NHS 24, who identified that he needed to be assessed in A& E. Next stop was RACH A& E, where he was assessed by a Student Nurse and Doctor, who confirmed the need for an X-ray. The X-ray was carried out promptly, and a fracture confirmed. An ankle boot was fitted, and we headed home. Excellent care throughout. As we were heading home, my son commented, “It’s a good thing we have the NHS, isn’t it? ”

Dear pelicanxc76

I'm so sorry to learn your son injured his ankle which was then found to be broken. It sounds a painful injury and I hope he is doing well. Coping with an ankle boot can't be easy also, so I hope he's managing ok with that.

The service provided to your son, and to you as his family, sounds seamless and timely, which is fantastic to see. Here at NHS 24 clearly we recognised that such an injury required a face to face assessment, hence your son's referral to A&E. The staff there sound great and I am sure my colleagues within NHS Grampian will be pleased to see your feedback.

Your son is absolutely correct when he says 'It’s a good thing we have the NHS'! It's great to see such a young person appreciating the fantastic service which is available to us all. Good for him to acknowledge that.

Best wishes to your son for a full and speedy recovery. If you care to share any additional information about your call to 111, then it would be good to hear further from you. You can contact me by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch.

Kind regards

Shona

Dear pelicanxc76

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback following your son's attendance at RACH A&E. with his injured ankle. Great to hear he had a positive experience and hope that he is well on the way to recovery and back playing with his friends again.

At 12yr old his consideration of what the NHS means to him is very touching to us and I will make sure that the department receives a copy of your feedback.

Thank you again
