I went to A&E with a diabetic DKA (ketoacidosis). I tested positive for Covid, so was sent to Ward 4A.
I could not praise the staff in Ward 4A enough. After 4 days I took very ill with Covid. I ended up in hospital for 12 days. This was a very scary and lonely time. You can't have family visiting. I was so worried I was going to ICU.
However the staff in 4A were just amazing. They made sure my fears were put to rest. They cheered me up, when I felt so low. While I can't remember all the wonderful staff's names (every one of them I met was fabulous). There were a couple I can:
Rachel - She was so good at taking away my fears. She joked we were family (as we had the same name). In a way she was my family. She was always so happy and positive. She probably doesn't know how much I loved her coming in and talking to me. Professionally she was great. But its the added extra caring nature that people need when in hospital. She has it in bucket loads.
Julie - She is amazing, so funny. You could not be sad with her around. Thank you for lifting my spirits every time you came in. You were the best medicine in there.
Niamh - What a star! Being in bed for so long. My hair had matted at the back. I tried to brush it when I was allowed out of bed. But it was so bad. I mentioned to Niamh that my hair was a mess. She came back with a comb and conditioner and gently got all the Tats out. Then put my hair in a ponytail. That act of kindness really helped me.
Also the food in the hospital was great. Didn't have one bad meal.
