"Delayed appointment"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

My appointment was due at 11. 05 am I hadn't been to the hospital at Lincoln before so left home early to make sure I wasn't late and to allow for any delays on the roads as its in general about a 45 min drive.   There was quite a bit of work going on around the entrances and one of the signs was obscured by some fencing,   once I found the correct area I needed I was informed where I needed to be, nice gentleman on the doors and I felt safe.

I took a seat after checking in at reception for clinic 11, I was quite busy as there were also other clinics held in the same area, there appeared to be a lot of staff moving in and out of clinical rooms but no patients joining them. It was now past my appointment time by about 40 minutes when I heard one of the nursing staff say that the clinician was running about 1 hour late.

I got talking to a lady in the next chair along who was also waiting to see the same person but her appointment was 15 minutes before mine, we chatted for a little while then I needed to have a drink I asked a staff member where I could get one to which I was informed the water dispensers had been removed due to covid, I found that odd as there wouldn't be any cross touching involved.  I could get a drink however, from the main entrance, that was not near enough for me and I didn't really want to leave the building in case my name was called so had to go without.

After about another half hour which was now more than an hour over the appointment time, I was desperate for a drink, I went to reception to ask if they knew how much longer it was going to be and wondered if I would have enough time to go back to my car to get a drink I had left there, I would have taken it in with me had I known I was going to be delayed for so long, the person on reception didn't know and said I would need to ask one of the nurses in white, after seeing so many around earlier the had all seemed to have vanished so I sat back down but kept a look out. About 10 min later the lady who I had been chatting to was called through so knew then that I wouldn't have time to go to the car,   at 1pm I was finally called through for my appointment.

Talking to the consultant I said I was confused as to why I was there as I had already seen a consultant at the Ramsey clinic in Boston in October of 2020 and had discussed the operation I would be having,   I was told to forget about it and that he would be dealing with me from now on, some of my medical notes were missing in particular the MRI pictures I had done in July of 2020 but he did have the report,   however he wanted to see what was going on so then sent me for x-rays.

When I got back I had to sit and wait again it was during this time I saw him leave the clinic presumably for a lunch break, by now not only was I extremely thirsty but now hungry and had had a thumping headache,   eventually I was called back through to the consultant and had a bit more of a discussion about what was going to happen but before I could leave he asked a nurse to get my weight and height, she obviously could see I was suffering and got me a drink of water and a biscuit,   she was lovely and finally nice to see someone who was really caring.

I finally left the hospital around 4pm then had the drive home finally getting home at 4. 45pm, a very long uncomfortable day.
