"Immunotherapy treatment"

About: Woodend Hospital / Ear, nose, throat, head & neck surgery outpatients

(as the patient),

I've been attending woodend hospital ENT department for annual immunotherapy injections for severe tree and grass pollen allergies now for two years, this is a viewed by some as an expensive treatment and some may question it's importance, but as a long term allergy sufferer I can vouch that if this is successful it will actually save the NHS money in the long run, Every year before treatment I was going through boxes of antihistamines and nasal sprays and eye drops, not to mention lotions and creams and ointments, this treatment also helped me stay in work and made a huge improvement to my quality of life.

Dear BarleyFarmer,

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

For people who haven’t had to deal with severe grass and pollen allergies it can be easy to underestimate how debilitating they can be. You are right in that immunotherapy injections can seem expensive compared to the cost of antihistamines, nasal sprays, eye drops, lotions, creams and ointments – but the costs of these, together with the time of the GP’s and pharmacists as you go back and forth, must mount up fairly quickly. I’m delighted to hear the treatment has helped improve your quality of life and also to say in work.

I have shared your feedback with staff from the ENT Team at Woodend who will genuinely be touched you have taken time to write and say thank you for the care and treatment you have received at the clinic.

Take care,

Kirsten
