"The night I ended up in A/E with Atrial fibrillation"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency Northern Health & Social Care Trust

(as a service user),

I am a retired nurse but am currently working to help during covid. One Sunday night in December I wakened with a very fast irregular heartbeat. I knew as a nurse that I needed treatment to slow it down so I ended up in Causeway A/E in the early hours of the morning. It was extremely busy but I was very quickly taken to a bed put on a monitor and had my bloods done I was started on IV drugs to try and regulate my heart beat. Eventually after 2 different types of drugs in IV fluids my heart went back into sinus rhythm. I was allowed home later that morning and had to go back the next afternoon to discuss new medication that I was going to be started on. My treatment that night and care was amazing especially with one particular nurse even though she was extremely busy. I felt very safe and she constantly reassured me.
