"Great asset to the hospital"

About: Cardiology / Cardiology Assessment Hub

(as a service user),

I had a heart transplant 29 years ago, + under the care of cardiologist at Altnagelvin Hospital and visit Harefield Transplant Hospital every 6 months. I rang the GP one morning and was given the number of Cardiac Assess. Hub at 10am. I felt I had a very professional, thorough conversation, with the Cardiac nurse and was given a speedy appointment time of 11:15am. I was seen straight away on my arrival of appointment.

I felt the service was very prompt, very thorough. In my many years of receiving top, specialist care. I was so very impressed and reassured about the top quality level of care and information and support from my visit to the hub. My nurses patient care was phenomenal. When I get sick, I get sick fast, its the nature of having a transplant, so I felt totally medically supported and reassured today with this service. I feel it is a life line to Cardiac Patients. Because I am immune suppressed due to my transplant medication, I was worried also due to the covid, that I would not get seen to quick and safe enough, by cardiac medical staff and I was totally reassured and provided for by the assessment hub!

I did not have to leave myself medically vulnerable by having to attend accident and emergency and wait hours to be seen. I am glad I was not seen by a local GP as I needed a proper, qualified Cardia Team to check my bloods, ECG, etc and all this was provided for. My nurse had 20 years experience as a cardiac nurse which was also reassuring; and, should I have needed extra care, my Cardiologist and another Cardiologist was nearby, again, fully reassuring me.

They did not rush my appointment and gave me the time I needed. As a transplant patient, my main care is based in England Hospital. I have often felt alone, under supported here in Londonderry, so often felt scared should I take sick. My appointment today, has changed all that. My experience was so swift, professional and of an extremely high quality standard of care, that I feel totally supported and cared for. I really wish to see the Cardiac Assessment Hub stay. Its a great asset to the hospital and us patients.

Thank you!

hello Atlaskq48

Can I thank you so much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review of your experience whilst visiting the cardiology hub. I am delighted on behalf of the nurses and medical staff working in the HUB that you felt so very impressed and reassured about the top quality level of care and information and support you received. It is our aim that each patient is treated not just on their medical needs but also on their specific individual requirements.

Each member of the team has worked in cardiology a long time but learn something new everyday and getting the chance to speak to yourself who has had a lot of experience of being a health service user was very humbling. It reminds me each patient is unique and ensuring the care I deliver should before all else be of a continuous high standard. Thank you again for the highly positive feedback and I will share this with our colleagues in cardiac assessment unit who were your initial first point of contact.

I hope you continue to remain well and may have the pleasure to meet you again in the future.

kind regards

Michelle McQuaide
