"Terrible Experience in ED"

About: University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust

Was left on a trolley in a corridor with no pain relief, no advice or information given. Carer tried calling for an update and was told "I won't be talking with you about this" and then hung up on. Pain relief was refused, I was told I was over exaggerating my pain (while I shaking, crying and vomiting), I was told that my medical condition didn't exist and was impossible, an out of date care plan was talked about and when I explained it was out of date and hadn't been followed for some time, I was told if I didn't like how I was being treated, I could leave.

I left with no help given at all.

Appalling way to treat disabled, vulnerable patients.

Dear Anonymous

We are very sorry to hear your experience of our Emergency Department left you less than satisfied with the service and this is most certainly not how we want our patients to feel when they leave.

We have shared your comments with the Matron and Administration Manager but as I’m sure you can appreciate, it can be difficult to comment on specific issues with limited information while respecting your privacy.

They have assured me they will discuss your feedback with the staff to look at ways they can improve their service based on your comments but would also encourage you to make further contact with the Emergency Department Directorate Manager to discuss in more detail.

This can be done by contacting the Emergency Department directly or through our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01202 704886 or pals@rbch.nhs.uk.

Once again we are sorry that you had a negative experience and thank you for taking the time to draw our attention to your concerns and hope you will take this opportunity to help us learn from your experience and improve our service.

Regards

Patient Experience Team
