"It would be great if this became a permanent facility"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Occupational Therapy

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was referred to the Primary Care Occupational Therapy Team by my Doctor as I am a long term sufferer with Depression for the last 10 years.

I have been referred to Occupational services in the past as I do suffer ongoing with my illness, and I would say that this service has been by far the best as it has been referred in house. I also find it difficult to trust people and this has also been an issue for me in the past with referrals but I did not feel this way with Kat, she was easier to talk too and was also so patient with me, even under the current situation with Covid, where I cannot travel to see any of my family who are in Ayrshire and this really made a difference to me. Kat has been so helpful and even came to my place of work to sort a plan for me as I have been on and off my work a lot over the last 10 years.

I did not feel under pressure with the service with Kat and felt that there was no time limit to try and get me to where I wanted to be, and also having appointments every week has been making a real difference to me, as in the past I have had to wait 3 weeks at a time in between appointments. Kat was also great at planning appointments and also making a plan for me in advance a week at a time.

I feel that my time with Kat has kept a lot of my bad thoughts at bay and in the past even during treatment my thoughts/situation would escalate and this has not happened this time which has really been a benefit to me. I could not praise the service from Kat any higher, she could not have done more for me and if I could have kept Kat as my Therapist I would have. I am still ongoing with the service and have been referred to another Therapist by Kat as she is no longer at the practice and happy to be ongoing with the service.

I feel that now Occupational Therapy is provided in house by GP really has made a difference and would continue to benefit me massively moving forward as I need regular help and it would be great if this became a permanent facility that could be offered by my practice.
