Stayed on Treliske postnatal Ward for 5 days after an emergency c section. My baby was ill with hypoglycaemia and suspected sepsis so was on a 5 day course of antibiotics. The care I received was good and also awful.
Good- breastfeeding support was amazing and can’t fault the health care assistants who worked extremely hard.
Awful- had to wait hours and hours for pain relief after requesting it as they kept forgetting to bring it to me, I went to visit my baby in the NICU and a member of staff rang the postnatal Ward for someone to come to collect me but they must have forgotten as I was waiting for ages (in agony) and another member of staff had to ring again for them to actually come and get me.
A member of staff almost gave me the wrong medication after getting my name wrong two times and confusing me with other patients, the same staff member forgot to give my baby their antibiotics and only realised this mistake when I asked if his results from his blood test were back. I had been given no information on what his care plan was so didn’t know when his antibiotics were meant to be taken or how long he was on them.
This made me extremely upset and scared and felt like my baby wasn’t being cared for (as well as myself but at this point my baby's care was more important). I would be incredibly anxious to stay in this ward again if I have another baby in the future.
