"My fractured wrist journey"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I fell and fractured my wrist on 8/03/21, an

ambulance and 2 paramedics attended. Their kindness and professionalism were very reassuring.
I spent a few hours in A & E being x-rayed, having the bone manipulated into place and a cast fitted. Every member of staff I had contact with were respectful, patient and kind. Every procedure was explained to me
I attended the fracture clinic on 15/3 to have my cast changed and the consultant explained that I needed surgery on my wrist. He talked through all the options with me and said I would receive a call within 3 days. A lovely nurse took COVID and MRSA swabs.
When I arrived home, I had a call to tell me to be at the Trauma Assessment unit at 9am the next morning for surgery. From the moment I arrived I felt so safe and protected. Without exception every staff member was  just incredible. Despite working so hard they were offering reassurance every step of the way, nothing was too much trouble.
I would particularly like to give a big thank you to the nurses at the Trauma Unit. I couldn’t have had better treatment and care - how lucky we are to have them

Dear JanR54

My name is Jane and I am the Clinical Matron for Emergency Care

Thank you for your very kind comments regarding your experience in ED.

We are a busy department but despite this, my expectations are that patients are treated with courteousy, respect and compassion and it would seem that this was the case whilst you were in our care,

It is also important that patients are provided with adequate explanations; hospitals can be very frightening places for many patients and just taking time to explain the care and treatment you are having or going to have, can often reduce this anxiety and make it more manageable.

It is great to know that the rest of your hospital journey was also very positive.

Once more, thank you for taking the time to post your comments and I hope you are making a good recovery from your injury.

Kind Regards

Jane
