My son was diagnosed with haemochromatosis a year before me, his mum. I was diagnosed with this just before Christmas when I was taken into hospital with a stone in my gallbladder.
I started my treatment as soon as I came out of hospital in mid-December 2020. From then I've had a pint of blood taken out of me since. After I usually feel quite tired and my body feels cold.
Some weeks I get slightly more than one pint took out of me. Having this treatment helps prevent serious illness such as a heart attack or a stroke. Haemochromatosis is basically having too much iron in your blood which is why I get treatment once a week.
Attending STH for my treatment is accessible and convenient, the staff are friendly and professional, and the service they provide is excellent.
