after collapsing and losing consciousness with what I thought was indigestion, I hurt my foot during the collapse and was referred to Southmead by my local MUI. A&E staff were so warm & friendly. I expected just to have an x-ray & be sent home. However, the staff insisted on doing blood tests & were more concerned about the pain that caused me to pass out in the first place. Blood tests revealed I was very poorly with pancreatitis. I was transferred to a room and spent 3 days in hospital. I was given a date to come back to have my gall bladder removed in two weeks due to the urgency. Before I left I was informed by the doctor that had I not come in, I would probably have died as my pancreas was so enlarged it was crushing my internal organs! I would like to sincerely thank them for their vigilance and care. During my 3 day stay, the nurses were fantastic and always made time to speak to you and never made you feel rushed, despite call alarms going off almost every minute of the day and night.
The care I received as a day patient for the lap chole procedure was second to none. The nurses looking after me before and after the procedure was so lovely, professional and full of good humour. The surgeon and his team all came to speak to me and ensure I knew exactly what was going to happen and allow me to ask questions. I cannot fault anything about the treatment I received. They were all superb.
"Life savers!"
