"Biologic Infusion"

About: South Tyrone Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a service user),

I commenced Biologic treatment for Crohns Disease in Dec 2020.  This was new to me and my anxieties heightened during C19 re risk of infection and risk of contacting Covid also.

I was reassured infusion treatments were happening in a non covid hospital site, namely STH and as am shielding and not out of the house this helped.

The staff are excellent and attention to PPE and minimising risk was and remains second to none, I'm now on my third visit to the ward. Thanks to all staff and Margaret and Robert for their professionalism, care, attention and indeed to the cleanliness and ongoing reassurances needed as provided from Lynsey and her team.

The ward itself is open, spacious with good fresh air and ventilation and this adds to the safe and high quality experience and I would not want this to change or compromise my health or exposure to C19 on a different site or setting that does not meet the high quality and safety experienced in STH.  This gives such peace of mind especially in the challenging times of a pandemic.  Please don't compromise safety for patients and staff, and mitigate against these risks by remaining on STH site.

Thankyou for taking the time to share your experience on care opinion. I appreciate it has been a very anxious time for you, and to share such a personal story takes courage, and strength, so Thank-you for sharing it.

As you suggest, coming out of shielding to a hospital environment in the middle of a pandemic is not something people want to do, and is the main reason we were moved from the main CAH site last year, allowing treatments which are vital, to continue safely. It is great to read that this did give you some reassurance, and that these big decisions and changes which were not made lightly, have helped.

We are fortunate to have had the space to ensure social distancing is adhered to, whilst continuing to administer all our vital treatments. throughout the pandemic. This move to STH has given us a bright and airy environment, with fresh air and great ventilation, and to read your comments confirming these environmental factors have been a help to you is very reassuring.

I am delighted to read that with all the safety measures we have put in place, you describe your visits as ‘a high quality experience’, and I will ensure that all the staff in the Day Clinical Centre and your specialist IBD team are made aware of your positive feedback, and reassuring comments.

Once again, Thank-you for taking the time to share your story with us, such positive feedback is very encouraging to receive.
