"My elderly dad’s treatment."

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Plastic Surgery & Burns

(as a relative),

Dad’s GP did an urgent referral to Dermatology as he had a bleeding, painful growth on the back of his ear. The Dr explained that it was skin cancer & due to the area of coverage, a referral to a Plastic surgeon would be needed. We saw Mr Rahman & his Reg. in Clinic A who were both extremely helpful. The HCSW was extremely helpful, her name is Clara & she couldn’t do enough to help us. Dad then attended as a day case to have the growth removed & again all the nurses were so kind & helpful. Unfortunately, I only got one nurses name, Caroline, who so kindly made dad a cup of tea after surgery, served with lots of biscuits! Dad then had to attend Plastic surgery dressings clinic and, again, all staff were extremely kind & helpful. The nurse in the clinic was Amanda who was very kind.  Dad & I were both humbled by the very kind & thoughtful student nurse also working in the clinic,  whose name I didn’t get but, she was lovely.

All of these events took place in just a few weeks & dad & I are both very appreciative & grateful. Especially at this time when the NHS is working very hard.

We are awaiting the biopsy results now & fingers crossed no further treatment is needed!

Thank you everyone!

Dear aquariustm59,

Thank you for writing and sharing such kind words for the staff involved with your dad’s care. Although I don’t work with the plastics team I have shared your story with the departments involved to ensure it reaches all the staff your dad would have met at his clinic appointment and during his day case surgery admission. Mr Rahman, Caroline, Amanda, Clara and the student nurse will be delighted to have received a special mention – a thank you, just like a cup of tea and a biscuit at the right time, is always greatly appreciated.

Hopefully all is well and you are both enjoying some of the lovely spring weather.

Kirsten

Dear Aquariustm 59

It was so nice to read your message to re Aberdeen Royal to Care Opinion and it will I am sure inspire the staff knowing they are appreciated.

I hope all is well with your Dad's ear but if you or he have worries of a non clinical nature we may be able to offer support. We have all had skin cancer and live to tell the tale. It can cause a lot of stress.

My experience of Mr Rahman is very limited but he did go over and above duty for one of our young people in the past. Good leaders with high kindly standards inspire teams to be the best. Thank you Mr Rahman and your lovely staff.

Our number is 0773 823 1260 every day from 8am until 11pm. If you leave a message we will return your call within 24hrs

Kind regards

Leigh Smith MASSCOT

Dear Aquariustm59

Many thanks for taking the time to write about yours Dads experience with in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Its great to read that he received such good care. We do all strive to give the best possible care we can and I am sure the nurses involved will be delighted to receive such good feedback. Sometimes it is the simplest of tasks that go such a long way and a cup of tea does seem to go help in comforting people. I will ensure your kind feedback is passed on to the nurses involved in your Dads care.

I sincerely wish your Dad and yourself good health going forwards

best wishes

Fiona Whyment
