"Early Pregnancy Unit"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I felt very dismissed by the midwives when I saw them.

The uncertainty of it all is something that concerns me.... how can you leave someone in the lurch like that ?

To be told they “couldn’t be sure” if I’m pregnant or had a miscarriage... then to have my bloods come back as less than 1HCG but I still have positive urine tests.

They pretty much discharged me after this, fobbing me off, when I felt they should be doing bloods to see if it’s rising.

So disappointed.

Dear Fairy2101,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience in the early pregnancy unit. I am sorry to read that your experience within the service was not one which we would expect you to have received and I am sorry to read that you feel disappointed. I wish to provide assurance that there are protocols in place to safely manage pregnancy and pregnancy loss within the service, however wish to apologise that you feel the way you do. It is not uncommon to continue to have positive pregnancy tests when your HCG is reducing, however if you still have concerns around this please contact your GP directly to discuss. Please do not hesitate to make contact with me to share your experience further if this would be helpful. Best wishes, Lesley

Update posted by Fairy2101 (the patient)

It must not be a loss, or my symptoms would not be getting worse.

I'm sure that I am... It is the dismissive care that I received that appalled me and also the fact that they told me it was a loss when they had admitted previously to that that they 'could not be sure'

I would have liked a certain answer rather than just uncertainty.
