Last week I was referred to the breast care centre. My letter told me to come alone. With the nature/urgency of my referral I decided to call ahead of my to ask if my husband or daughter could come with me. I was told no.
Whilst the staff were all very kind during my appointment, to be told you have cancer, sat alone, shocked and incredibly upset has been the most horrendous and upsetting experience ever. This has not been the experience of a friend elsewhere.
A huge sign as you walk into the centre says that you must attend alone in line with government guidance.... I have looked and have been unable to find any government guidance that states you have to sit alone in a clinic room to be told you have cancer.
I sincerely hope my experience improves during treatment at Musgrove breast care.
