"Bitten on the nose"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department

(as a service user),

My 19 year old daughter was bitten by the family pet on her nose. As you can imagine we were very upset. I rang triage and the call handler was lovely and reassuring. A nurse rang me back quite quickly and again was lovely and reassuring. As advised we attended the emergency department and all staff from porters, to reception, nursing and medical staff were very kind, professional and helpful. As per current policy I couldn’t accompany my daughter into the treatment area but dr Ciaran reassured me that they would look after my daughter and kindly kept me updated of her care.

My daughter felt reassured and looked after and they did an excellent job of suturing her nose.

Thank you for taking the time to share you experience of attending the Emergency Department.

I am pleased that you found the ‘phone first’ initiative helpful and that the staff were reassuring.

Thank you for you kind words regarding all of the ED staff, I am glad that you had a positive experience and hop your daughters nose is healing well.

Kind Regards

Noella Madden
