"My cbt"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as a service user),

I had a breakdown, life got too much and I didn’t want to be here anymore. I called Thurrock inclusion and started cbt. Maam was my therapist and I connected with her. She has made me challenge my unhelpful thoughts and made me understand better of why I feel the way I did. I’ve just finished my sessions now and feel confident I can cope better going forward. It’s going to be a long hard road but hopefully all the tools Maam has given me will make life better for me. Wished I had tried cbt years ago. Just want to thank inclusion Thurrock and especially Maam for all her hard work getting me to believe in myself for the first time ever. If anyone reading this is feeling low, depressed or anxious give them a call. They are understanding and will help you get back on the road to recovery.

Dear empathyhp59,

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. It sounds like things were really difficult for you before you had gotten in touch. During these times, it is completely normal to notice thoughts that you do not want to be here anymore, but these can be frightening and upsetting. I am glad that, although you mentioned wishing you had tried CBT sooner, you were able to use these thoughts as a prompt to access the service and start your journey with us.

CBT is very helpful in encouraging us to challenge the negative thought patterns we find ourselves stuck in and, as you say, one part of this is developing an understanding of where these difficult thoughts and feelings come from. In doing so, you learn techniques and tools to manage these thoughts for the future as well.

I'm sure Maame will be thrilled to hear how much of a difference the work you have put in together has made for your life, particularly for your self-belief. I wanted to highlight how you have praised Maame's hard work here - it's also worth noting how much hard work you will have put in yourself! Therapy is often challenging in some ways and being able to use these techniques proves how committed you have been to the process.

Although this may be the first time you have felt you believe in yourself, please take your achievements through therapy as another reason this belief can last for a long time. As you mentioned, keep up with the tools and techniques you have learned and these will support you to notice these improvements in the long-term.

All the best wishes for the future,

Adam
