"Not so great practice!!"

About: Devon Road Surgery

I first called on Monday at 10-30 am to book an appointment and I was told I was position number 16, 16????, I redialed an hour later and was position number one, it stayed at number one for about 3 minutes and, Click, it just went off, whether a wrong button at your end was pressed I don't know but it was very annoying to say the least. Again I redialed and was position number 4 and I chose the ring back option, after about 8 minutes the phone rang, TWICE!!!, just two rings, I didn't even get the chance to pick it up when it went off, on checking my phone it had registered as a missed call, I redialed yet again and was position number 4 and so hung on for a good 12 minutes and, at last, spoke to the receptionist.

I have been a patient at The Devon Road Surgery For 40 years plus, the doctors and the nurses over the years have been superb, BUT, the receptionists leave a lot to be desired, the one(s) I have dealt with are rude, snappy, short in speaking and very condescending, I am not saying that they are all like that and maybe I rang on a bad day for that (those) receptionists, especially during these present awful (Covid), times, maybe they need retraining or need lessons in customer service, overall, not a nice experience.

Another complaint I have is, I tried to access The Devon Road Surgery website several times and every time, in the top left hand corner was, (still is?) the quote, "The service is unavailable", so even if I wanted to do all of this on-line, I wouldn't be able to!! The only site I could open was this review site.

If I could register with another Doctor, I would, but I am very happy with the ones at The Devon Road Surgery.

I am saddened and sorry to make this complaint but felt I needed to.

I am sorry that you have had a poor experience on our phones. Our phones are at times exceptionally busy - Monday morning being the most busy period of the whole week. By the sound of it you were inadvertently cut off by somebody at the Practice and for this I sincerely apologise - I can understand how frustrating this must have been. This does sometimes occur when the phones are very busy, as different members of staff are all attempting to answer as many calls as possible as quickly as possible. This is also probably the reason the receptionist you spoke to may have sounded abrupt, they are constantly aware of patients sitting in the phone queue who have been waiting for some time so try and make the calls as brief and efficient as possible. I would encourage you to write in to me to let me know who you are so I can listen to the call and address any training needs with the receptionist involved. As regards your comment about our website, to my knowledge there have been no issues with our website or the online booking site but obviously once all of the online slots have been booked, they would not show up. Again, if you could let me know when you are experiencing 'this service is unavailable' on the website, if you could let me know - I will look into this for you. Julie Robbins, Practice Manager
