"Waiting for a scan for my retinal problem"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

Considering I have no sight on my left eye due to retina detachment. Now I have had tears in my right retina. Had to have emergency laser treatment  at Moorfields who followed it up constantly before they discharged me.

I returned to P A H Eye Unit last April as I was still getting visual disturbances in my right eye and headaches. They refused to see me due to Covid but said see how it goes over the phone.

My Visual Disturbances were getting worse so I chased up and was given a phone appt in Dec of which no one rang. I was then given phone appt 2 months later (Feb 2021). The doctor rang, didn't seem concerned at all and said I'd get a letter for a scan. No letter has come so just called Eye Unit and talked to very unhelpful person who said it wasn't marked as urgent and seemed very unconcerned.

Got to wait yet again now. Just hope my retina doesn't detach as I'll be blind then!

Dear EagleFN46,

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding. I was so sorry to read about your experience and I know the Ophthalmology Service are working hard to ensure that telephone based appointments are kept and patients are asked to attend in person as needed.

Please contact the team here by email on paht.pals@nhs.net and Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm on 01279 82 72 11 and we will do everything we can to ensure your concerns are resolved if any remain.
