"Hospital food needs to be addressed"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as the patient),

I have been an in patient at the RAH in Paisley for quite a while now and have to address the disgraceful lunches and evening meals that are given to patients. The food is tasteless and not edible at times, including the choices they give you.

The past week I have seen disgusting meals like a dog's dinner given to patients. The menu choices need to be addressed especially for those like myself who are diabetic.

I also want to address provisions on the ward. There has not been any yogurts nor fresh sandwich for two weeks. It would be beneficial to ensure something like this is available, especially before bedtime.

Hi Watrw38

Thank you for sharing the above story, I have reached out to colleagues in our facilities team, and they have asked me to share the below with you in response to your feedback.

"Please accept my sincere apologies that you felt that food provision and presentation of meals at RAH was poor whilst you were a patient at RAH; during meal service there are 3 choices available and should a patient feel that those choices don’t meet their taste or dietary needs then the nursing staff on the ward can contact a member of the Catering Team to request alternative.

Appropriate nutrition is an important part of a patient’s recovery and nursing staff on the ward are responsible for ensuring that dietetic requirements for patients are met; I am sorry that you felt that your needs weren’t met and it is regrettable that you felt you received a less than satisfactory meal service including a lack of ward provisions. Your concerns have been raised with the Catering Services Manager who will liaise with the nurses in charge."

Kind Regards

Paul
