"Broken wrist"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department University Hospital Monklands / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I fell on the ice, and broke my wrist, on 3 January, 2021.

I contacted 111, who arranged for an appointed time to be at A&E. It was very busy that night. I got an x ray, which confirmed the break, and the Doctor had to perform traction, before the nurse put the cast on.
It was then a weekly x ray, because surgery was a possibility. I was lucky, no surgery required.
Today, 16 Feb, 2021, I attended Fracture Clinic, cast removed, x ray, then in to see Mr Miller, who declared the wrist healed, and no more cast required. He did show me some exercises, and warned it's a slow recovery.
However, I am just delighted, that at age 61, I am lucky enough, that my broken wrist, has been straightforward, and no surgery.
Mr Miller commented that the A&E Doctor did a good job with the traction, to get the radius well placed.
I owe a lot to that A&E Doctor, but every single professional I dealt with was so good. Helpful, pleasant and professional, when it's obvious they are so busy. I don't know the name of the A&E Doctor of 3rd January (around 1am) that set my wrist so well, or the nurse that applied my first cast. I would really like to say a special thanks to them.
I also have to commend the hospital on all the Covid measures. It was another reassurance, in these weird times.
That's my story. A great example of teamwork. I'd like to give my sincere thanks to every single person.  Like most, I try hard to avoid hospitals, and I was also concerned about Covid, but my care was brilliant, and the Covid measures are so good.
I would be really thankful if you shared this with as many as you see fit.
