"Stay in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Respiratory Medicine (Breathing and Lung Problems)

(as a service user),

I was admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary recently with pneumonia. Throughout my stay the entire staff were amazing. They were very busy and under a lot of pressure.

Unfortunately, one incident has stayed with me. I was in a four bedded room and witnessed the nurse in charge, behave unprofessionally. They clearly had a problem with a fairly newly qualified staff nurse and instead of dealing with it privately, they dealt with it in front of me and the three other patients In the room. The staff nurse was left in tears and I was mortified for them. As an ex staff nurse myself, I found this extremely unprofessional. The staff nurse in question was very caring, kind and was doing a super job for being so newly qualified.

Apart from that, as I have said, I could not fault the ward and am extremely grateful to them for helping me when I was very poorly.

Dear chassispz44

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to us following your stay in ward 107.

I am very disappointed to read about your experience. While we recognise that the ward areas are very busy there is no excuse for one of our nursing team behaving in this manner towards a colleague and I want to assure you that along with the Senior Charge Nurse for this ward we will investigate this incident and take your concerns forward. I can only imagine your discomfort at witnessing this incident and want to assure you that behavior like this is not tolerated within NHS Grampian.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, we will act upon this and provide support and education to both of the nurses involved in this incident. If you wish to contact me to provide further information I am happy for you to do so and can be called on 01224 550110 or you can email me at catriona.sutherland@nhs.scot.

I do hope you have made a good recovery from your admission and thank you again.

Kindest regards

Catriona
