"Misdiagnosis"

About: Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust Red House Surgery

(as the patient),

While playing football I felt severe pain in my knee after jumping for a ball. I had difficulty walking. I went to see the doctor and they said that I just need to rest and that it was not serious. They didn't want to send me to an expert. After testing for more than a month I tried to play again but my knee gave up immediately and I went to see another doctor. Who also didn't want to send me to an expert or an MRI. And only after I insisted sent me to physiotherapy at DynamicHealth NHS physiotherapy and specialist, Cambridge. The physiotherapist didn't really do much and told me I can get back to playing. I tried but immediately had pain and couldn't play or even walk.

Finally after going to a private physiotherapist, I was able to convince them that I need to see an expert and get an MRI. Only after a year I was able to see an expert and get an MRI. But by then I moved outside of the UK and had to start the process over in another country. I finally got an MRI and my ACL was completely torn. I had surgery this week and hopefully all will be fine. I missed about 3 years of being active, gained weight and was unmotivated.

All this could have been prevented if they just sent me to see an expert. Is there anything to be done to compensate for the misdiagnosis and the hardships it has caused me? Why was it so hard to send me to an expert? Thank you.
