I was very pleased to be able to contact Ruth by phone, then email when I needed to make contact with my consultant who has retired but is working on occasion to help in medical wards with covid. This was very important to me as I needed to have a prescription changed and the team who are now based at Crosshouse and who are unknown to me personally as they are relatively new to their roles, couldn't help me. When I explained my predicament to Ruth she was able to email my consultant who then put the changes in place on my prescription. This has made a huge difference to my safety.
Ruth has been providing excellent dietary advice to all patients at the Ayr Hospital Diabetes Clinic for many years, treating everyone with respect and providing the information that is needed for each individual. Before covid put a stop to the routine clinics, I enjoyed a one day seminar with another 15 or so patients at Crosshouse Hospital organised to give dietary support about carb counting. It was a relaxed day organised very well by the dietitians. Our group were mixed in the number of years we have each been managing type 1 which made it even more interesting to see how much we could all still learn from our dietitians.
Being able to contact Ruth when there was no one else to turn to because of the pandemic and changes in staffing, provided me with the help I needed and I am very grateful.
