"Finding out I have heart defect"

About: Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I got brought into hospital with shortness of breath, swelling to legs and feet which had been getting worse over few days. I had suffered from racing pains in chest for about a year but kept getting told I was having panic attacks and I was over thinking things.

I had been to local doctor who said I had infection and anxiety, got put on antibiotics but I got so unwell over next few days I asked for ambulance to be called. So thankful I did after multiple tests and bloods getting done I was shocked to find out it was my heart - only one side working.

I was needing valves replaced. To be told this when you are under 40 is very scary. I have all sorts of thoughts going through my mind but main one is why did this not get picked up sooner? I’m currently waiting to go for my operation hopefully any day now.
