"I learned so much about myself at Notts Recovery College"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Nottingham Recovery College

(as a service user),

The Notts Recovery College is fantastic, I learned so much about myself in 'Living Well with ADHD' and building self confidence.

From when I was about 6 years old I became a carer for my little brother alongside my mum. Unfortunately my mum fell into a deep depression and struggled to get up in the morning. (college helped me realise she had fell in to depression) so I had to pick up where she left off. Giving my brother his tablets in the morning was a hard task indeed! He too like me has ADHD but suffered with his anger getting the better of him. They helped me understand how he was struggling just as much as I was!

The only downside is when you leave, you do feel quite lost. But... hang on in there, you got this! And Marcus, Robyn and Debbie helped me so much when times got hard for me!

Hello, my name is Jane Danforth. My role involves helping our service users, volunteers and staff to understand that Notts Healthcare wants to hear stories about our services. We reply to every story and it really helps us to improve what we do, how we do it and to hear about what works well too.

Firstly, I would like to apologise in the delay for getting back to you and secondly, thank you so much for leaving your feedback.

My colleague has been in touch with The Recovery College to let them know you have taken the time to share your story and I am sure they will want to reply too.

It must have been so daunting to become a Young Carer from such an early age. You have done so well and it sounds like the Recovery College really helped you in many ways, particularly Marcus, Robyn and Debbie who will be so pleased to hear they have made a difference.

Keep safe and well

Jane

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience of the Nottingham Recovery College and please accept our apologies in the delay in getting back to you.

The way you have coped with your role as a carer, as a young person yourself, is inspiring for others to hear and we are so pleased to have helped you to gain understanding. It is clear that the learning you have gained from being at the Recovery College is impacting on the wellbeing of others around you and it is motivating to hear. Marcus, Robyn and Debbie will also be inspired to hear your feedback.
