"My 12 year old daughter"

About: Andrew Lang Unit / Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service Children and Young People's Services / CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service)

(as a parent/guardian),

Dear All,

As soon as CAHMS became involved in my daughter's care, I felt they were keeping her alive - genuinely. She remains high risk, but I feel so grateful for the support provided to her and me as her mother. The advice, kindness and general calm approach has been amazing.

Dear parent,

I am sorry to hear that your daughter remains high risk, that must be very frightening for you as her parent. Thank you for sharing your experiences with CAMHS. I am pleased to hear that these have been positive for both you and your daughter. I hope that they continue to be so. Please don't hesitate to let us know if there is anything you feel could be improved upon in future.

Kind regards

Gwendolyn

Thanks for your responses. One thing I think that needs to happen (but not based on my personal experience) is a much smaller waiting list. My daughter’s friend has had similar reactions to trauma with very worrying comments, and she’s remains in limbo. We have an opportunity, as I’m sure you agree, to save this generation of young teens from life long MH problems by acting now. We feel so lucky, and I hope others do too.

Dear Parent,

I totally agree with you about the need for and benefits of smaller waiting lists. My colleagues and I are very aware of the impact long waits can have on young people and their families and we are committed to continue to address this issue.

Kind regards

Gwendolyn
