"My dad's transfer to ED and subsequent care."

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Enhanced Care / Acute Care at Home Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a relative),

My dad, ill and weak for some considerable time, was assessed at home by the Acute Care at Home Team and subsequently transferred to Craigavon Hospital by emergency ambulance. The ambulance  staff - Angus and Ashley -were clearly a very competent team, and,   recognising his peri-arrest status, gave appropriate treatment, yet allowing time for my elderly mother to see him for the last time as he was placed in the ambulance. The ED team awaiting his coming, were competently led by Dr McKeever, who informed me throughout of his progress and the options that were open to them. I was impressed with Dr McKeever's professionalism and compassion. Special mention and commendation  should also be reserved for Dr Porter, consultant radiologist, and  surgical registrar  Andrew, who dealt with difficult matters in a most sensitive way. Lastly - and by no means least - I would like to mention staff nurse McCaul, who was marked by warmth, care and sensitivity, as she tended to my dad in his last hours.

Hello circinussd95,

Thank you for such heartfelt feedback at this difficult time and for taking the time to provide it. I am so sorry for your loss and offer my deepest condolences to both you and your mother.

Whilst the Acute Care at Home Team strive to care for our patients at home, I am reassured that they escalated your father to ED for admission to manage his critical needs and that ambulance and ED services acted in the professional, caring and compassionate way that they do.

I am sure that a representative from these services will want to thank you also.

Many thanks again,

Yvonne

Dear circinussd95

Thank you for sharing your story at such a difficult time, I am sorry for your loss and offer my sincere condolences to you and your family.

I am reassured that you found Ashley and Angus caring and competent and that they ensured your mother got to be with your father before they transported him.

I have shared your story with the crew's supervisor so they can see for themselves the impact their actions have in people's last days.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share and I hope your mother and your family are finding some comfort in your grief.

Rachel
