"12 hours - no doctor, no information"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Pilgrim Hospital / General medicine

(as a service user),

12 hours - no doctor, no information regarding test result or diagnosis

I waited for 12 hours after attending A& E with heart pain, breathing difficulties and headaches.   Was triaged quickly in A& E having arrived at 9. 30am - had numerous tests

I was then sent onto IAC unit at 3pm. Waited until 8pm before asking what was happening, was told the doctor would be round imminently.   I waited until 9. 00pm and asked again - one of the nurses seated at the nurses station asked why I hadn't; t asked what was happening before, which of course I had.   Another nurse intervened and said that I had been waiting since 3pm and not received any information at all no had I been seen by a doctor.   Both nurses agreed this was not usual not was it acceptable.

I informed them that   my husband was en route back to the hospital to take me home, having already waited for 7 hours outside.   The trip is a 40 minute drive each way.   at 9. 35pm, still no doctor and no information   - I discharged myself.
