I was still in great shock and feeling traumatised after leaving hospital after having treatment for Covid 19. I had 'brain fog' and could not take in new information nor have coherent conversations with any medical agencies or specialist involved in my care. I was exhausted both mentally and physically and was very worried about my future and whether I would have further medical challenges to deal with.
I had become a type 2 diabetic as a result of the steroids I had been prescribed and had to test my blood and take insulin injections on a daily basis. Although on the day of my discharge, a diabetic nurse, had gone through what was required in terms of my diabetic care, I could not absorb what she had said. I explained my concerns to her and she then arranged a district nurse to come and see me to explain the procedure at home.
On the same evening as I was discharged, I met District nurse Benjamin. She explained the process of taking bloods and injecting the insulin to my husband and supervised him through the process .
Nurse S. Benjamin throughout the visit was very polite, professional, supportive, highly knowledgeable and treated us with compassion, kindness and dignity. I could have cried. At a time when I was feeling so vulnerable - Nurse Benjamin - was really supportive and continues to be supportive even now. She is an excellent health care professional. I would highly recommend her.
Nurse Benjamin: Thank you for your excellent service. You were there for me when I was at my lowest ebb and I am so so grateful.
