Because I am diabetic I was scheduled as first in for the colonoscopy procedure. Both Reception and the nurse who checked my blood pressure and so on were polite and efficient. I was shown into the day surgery ward where in a matter of minutes I was changed and ready. There was virtually no wait time before I was shown into Theatre where the nurses introduced themselves and made me comfortable. The doctor who administered the procedure was very good at it. I have had this several times before, and it can be painful, even when sedated. I was sedated on this occasion, and felt very little discomfort. If I was being critical, I did feel the doctor could have commented more about what if anything was found as the colonoscopy was under way. I was later told what was found by a nurse, but the real findings need to await biopsy results. The doctor did not tell me this had been done, but it must have been.
The recovery process was very quick, as I was fine. Coffee, surprisingly good from a machine, and a nice fresh sandwich were most welcome. After dressing I was moved to a little room with comfortable chairs and a telly. More coffee and biscuits. The staff were all very pleasant, and the whole visit was over in less time than I had been told to expect. My lift arrived, and my Day Surgery experience at Wishaw was over.
