On 9th January I learned that as a result of a fall on I had dislocated my right shoulder and also had a slight fracture at top of the humerus. I had an operation under general anaesthetic to manipulate my right arm into my shoulder and yesterday I attended a follow-up appointment at the fracture clinic. I was first sent for an X-ray and then spoke with Mr. MacDonald who gave me the good news that the shoulder was fine but that the fracture would take some time to heal. He explained the nature of the fracture and what would happen while healing took place. He also explained that I would be referred for physiotherapy in 4-6 weeks and what I should - and shouldn't! - do while the injury was healing. Mr. MacDonald took great care to ensure that I understood his explanations and to answer any questions I had carefully and fully.
I have already expressed my gratitude to all the staff in A&E and Day Surgery who cared for me and wish now to thank all those who dealt with me yesterday.
The fracture clinic was extremely busy but Mr. MacDonald and all the staff who cared for me did so patiently and with great consideration, which I very much appreciated. I hope that my thanks can be conveyed to all concerned.
