"Staff on mobile phones"

About: Derriford Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I Had to come to A & E over this weekend,

I was in alot of pain and  i'm not a massive fan of hospitals,

Unfortunately I witnessed several staff members stood and  sat at the desk on their mobiles having highly inappropriate conversations at the long desk in the middle , very unprofessional, even with patients calling out they did not move , some other staff were running around trying to see them whilst these nurses where sat as though they where at the pub.
Althoug thank goodness for my nurse, she treated me with compassion care and lighthearted humour, nothing was too much for her, thank you becky.

When it came to discharge it was late at night  and I was told I had to wait in reception for my family to pick me up , surley I could of been let to rest on the bed for 10 minuets instead of being pushed out and forgotten?  I understand you need beds but for the sake of 10 minuets it seems a bit unnecessary.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment on the standard of care received in our department. I am sorry that your experience does not appear to be of the high standard we aspire to for all our patients. Unfortunately, I am unable to respond to individual concerns on this forum, however if you could please forward your details to our PALS team, I would be more than happy to fully investigate your concerns. Please see their contact details below.

Thank you
