"My Journey with Covid 19"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A3 Respiratory Whiteabbey Hospital / Nightingale Wards

(as a service user),

I was feeling unwell for about a week.  I couldn't get a breath.  My daughter made an appointment for me to get tested.  My result was Covid positive.  She contacted Dal-Doc and the Doctor told her to get me into hospital ASAP.

My Daughter took me to Antrim ED.  I spent a night there in a side room.  I did have a bed though.  The staff must of been nice because I would of remembered if they were rude.  I was taken to A3.  Every day I felt worse.  I couldn't get a breath.  They put me on CPAP.  I felt  very comfortable because it helped me to breathe.  I don't remember much because I felt so unwell.  When I started to improve, the doctor told me I had been very unwell, and that it would take a while for my breathing to get better again.  The staff were very kind and approachable.  The ward was very clean.  I have nothing but praise for the staff.  They treated me well.  The only issue I had was that they lost my denture.  They said they must of fallen in the laundry.  I was really annoyed about that.

They brought me to Whiteabbey Nightingale in an ambulance.  The ambulance crew were very good.  The staff have been trying to get me on my feet here and they're getting me to walk with oxygen on.  The staff are great and very helpful.  The food is lovely.  I eat everything they give me... nearly the plate too.  I still can't smell my food, but I can taste it.

I couldn't of gone home at the time I came here so the Nightingale has benefited me in my mobility.
