"Zero compassion whatsoever"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

I had to visit the early pregnancy assessment unit due to worries that I was having a miscarriage, I was told at first that I didn’t meet the criteria to be seen until I had bled what they deemed excessive (even though I was losing a lot of blood and tissue) when I was finally told I could be seen, I was told my partner would be able to attend with me due to the circumstances we were facing. When we arrived he was told to wait outside for over an hour and wasn’t even given a chair to sit on. I was taken alone to be told that I was suffering a miscarriage and had to tell my partner myself what was happening. The nurse that told me had no compassion whatsoever and was blunt about the whole situation. I was told I would receive a phone call with the results of my blood test within 2 days. I still haven’t been told. The overall experience was horrific and not just because of the information we received. I am disgusted with how I have been treated and hope no-one else gets the same treatment I received.

Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to learn that your experience on the Emergency Gynaecology Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital at Wythenshawe did not meet the expected standards. Your feedback has been discussed with the team on the Emergency Gynaecology Unit and whilst I appreciate it is too late to affect the care for you and your partner, it is important that the team learns from your experience in order to improve standards for others and I would like to thank you most sincerely for taking the time to bring your concerns to my attention, especially during this most difficult time.

It is challenging to respond to all posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss your experience with us in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0161 276 8686, referencing PO20/0083 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk.

The Trust has introduced a behavioural framework within which all members of the nursing and medical teams' practice, so it was disappointing to read that you found your experience has been a negative one. I can assure you that we have passed on your feedback to Dr Rohna Kearney, Clinical Head of Division for Gynaecology, Ms Emily Hoyle Divisional Director for Gynaecology and Mrs Cath Bartlett, Head of Nursing who will to share your feedback with the wider team.
