"Why's it always this hospital?"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

Poor experience once again at this hospital. I love the NHS and all they do, truly they are incredible. However this particular hospital is seriously lacking and always has been. Appointments are never on time and on this occasion it's exactly the same. My particular frustration today surrounds not being allowed into the scan of my first born baby. Myself and my wife have been through so much to get here and to be told I have to sit in the corridor is just disgusting. The hospital is full of people working side by side yet I cannot see the scan of my unborn baby? It's not like this in other hospitals. I'd have worn a hazmat suit if they would just let me in! Fathers are being robbed of a memorable and emotional experience and something should be done to change this. Other hospitals have guidelines in place to allow the father to see the scan so why doesn't this one? Any hospital but this one is my motto going forward. Bad experience every time.

We were very sorry to receive your comments and concerns via the NHS Website about your experiences in the Maternity Services at Saint Mary's Hospital at Wythenshawe.

There have been a number of challenges we have had to address due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that the safety of staff and our patients is maintained. There were restrictions in place for accompanying women to scans in line with national recommendations. Following a review in November 2020, partners are being allowed into every scan.

It is very difficult to respond to the specific concerns you have raised without being able to investigate your concerns in more detail. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about your experience. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk referencing PO20/0082.

The Trust has introduced a behavioural framework within which all members of the nursing and medical teams' practice, so it was disappointing to read that you found your experience has been a negative one. I can assure you that we have passed on your feedback to Dr Clare Tower, Clinical Head of Division for Obstetrics, Ms Mary Hynes Divisional Director for Obstetrics and Mrs Faith Sheils Head of Midwifery who will share your feedback with the staff.

Karen Connolly

Chief Executive Officer

Saint Mary's Hospital Managed Clinical Services.
